FILM QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Ever sat in the cinema and thought what have I seen him in before? How frustrating is a rented DVD box with no production notes? What was the Oscar winning 1960s film that had no speaking female parts?

Now imagine youre not at your desk to search IMDB, and your eyesight is blurred from scouring the ever decreasing print in Halliwells.

Help is at hand literally. Your most obscure and most genuinely interested film questions can now all be answered without you having to lift a finger. Well, just your texting finger.

Mobile phone question answering service AQA (Any Question Answered) gets asked over 12,000 questions a day, many of which are film related. The beauty of the service is that you can receive an answer to literally any question in a matter of minutes, wherever you are.

Whilst the service appeals to film quiz audiences and trivia freaks, it also has a relevance to students needing help with research (less time in the library), or even for those wanting to set up their own film quiz and are stuck for questions. Texting give me a difficult film related question, could yield:

Which film star played a female in all his films? AQA answer: Lassie is a female character, but all 9 of the dogs who portrayed her have been male. Pal, born on 20 June 1940, was the first dog to play Lassie.

Some are also interested in subjects that have made news headlines:

How much did oddjobs hat sell for at auction? AQA answer: In an auction in 1998 at Christie's of London, the steel-rimmed bowler hat famously used by Oddjob in the 1964 Bond film 'Goldfinger' sold for 62,000.

Others are interested in the mechanics of filmmaking:

What does 'wrap' mean in 'its a wrap'? AQA answer: "It's a wrap" comes from an acronym used in the early days of cinema. At the end of filming the cameraman would have to 'Wind, Reel And Print' or WRAP.

In addition to general film-related questions, the service is also used by a large number of people looking for film showing times at their local cinemas.

AQA was launched in April 2004 and is about to hit its 5 millionth question asked, with over 650 researchers working from home to answer your questions. It was set up by a group of friends who were doing a crossword puzzle at a cricket match. They texted a friend for help with one of the clues, and he texted back the answer.  They thought it was a good idea and set about developing the AQA concept.

To use the service, UK phone users should text their question to 63336 (calls cost 1). Republic of Ireland phone users should text 57275 (calls cost 2). New customers can ask their first question free on http://www.63336.com see if you know more about film than they do.

Heres a list of the Top 10 film questions AQA have been asked to get you thinking (answers are at the bottom of the page).
