LAKE HOUSE, THE - PG

Remember Goodnight Sweetheart, a British series in the 90's a time travelling Sci-Fi comedy, allowing Nicolas Lyndhurst (Gary Sparrow) to accidentally travel back in time and fall in love. Or Back to the Future, where Michael J Fox with his time machine came head to head with his parents as a teenager.  Or even Dr Samuel Beckett (Scott Bakula) in Quantum Leap, who found himself trapped in time, leaping into his white suit and into the lives of troubled people. Could 'Time Travel' be possible? It may be plausible for its continual occurrence within story lines leading to films that transcend time and focus on the timelessness of love.

The Lake House is no different, for it is a love story, focusing on the lives of two people who have never met.

Dr.  Kate Forster (Sandra), a lonely Doctor, leaves her beautiful lake house, in Suburban Illinois, where she has completed her residency to move a busy Chicago hospital.  As she leaves her true self behind, she leaves a hand written note in the mailbox for the house's next tenant, asking to forward her mail. This leads to a string of strange events that one could never imagine.

Alex Wyler (Keanu), a talented architect, is frustrated with his life.  Working at a construction site, he seeks solitude in a neglected dusty lake house, it holds memories and a place in his heart for it was a house built by his famous father.  He works on restoring the property and unearths a note from Dr. Kate Forster.  He writes to Forster explaining that the house has been abandoned for years and they continue corresponding through the mailbox in from of the lake house.

As the film progresses a further mystery behind their unusual romance is unravelled.  They are actually living two years apart.

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock obviously enjoy working together since their memorably pairing in Speed.  Keanu comments on Sandra saying "I find her inspiringshe gives Kate a mix of vulnerability and strength'

Based on the original 2000 South Korean film II Mare the film caught the attention of Doug Davidson and Roy Lee (founders of Vertigo Entertainment) at the International Film Festival in South Korea.  After writing the script the film was re-adapted in the US by renowned Argentinean director Alejandro Agresti, who allowed the freedom to project individual feelings, in a style that mirrored that of their characters.
